Kanav's 85 guides Bhatia to win in Patriot's Cup

JAMMU: Brilliant knock of 85 runs from Kanav today guided Bhatia Cricket Club to a comfortable seven wickets win against Friends Cricket Club in the opening match of the Patriot's Cup 50 overs a side cricket tournament at Country Cricket Stadium, Gharota, near here.

Batting first, Friends Club bowled out for 127 runs in 27 overs. Avinash (53), Rouf (21) and Ashwani (13) were the main scorers. Earlier, Friends made a poor beginning when they lost three consecutive top order batsmen to effective fielding from young side of Bhatia Cricket Academy while negotiating singles.

When put to bat, Bhatia Academy batsmen accomplished the target in 24th over with a stunning knock of 85 runs from Kanav. Vansh Bhatia was other main scorer with 20 runs. From Friends side, Rocky and Gourav took one wicket each.

The tournament was shown the green start by former Ranji Trophy player, Vivek Sharma who avidly supports the longer version of cricket. He discussed with the young players the need to appear in days and multi day matches since the young players need foremost the lessons of long stays over the fields to nurture and hone their cricketing skills and not fall prey to the baby version of cricket which is a commercial escapade of the corporate world.
