MVIS celebrates Baisakhi

JAMMU: Prep Wing of MV International School celebrated Baisakhi with great enthusiasm and gaiety.

The kindergarten wing of the school was decorated depicting the harvest season. Children were explained about the importance of the festival by showcasing the Punjabi culture. Dhol beats and Punjabi folk music added to the excitement. Kindergarten children were dressed in colourful Punjabi traditional attires and they beautifully coloured “Happy Baisakhi” worksheets.They relished Baisakhi special dishes to mark the festivity.

The motive behind the celebrations was to apprise the children of our rich culture and heritage. While speaking on the occasion, K.L. Dogra, Principal of the school, said Baisakhi was not only a harvest festival but also an auspicious day as on this day Guru Gobind Singh had established the “Khalsa Panth”.

Joginder Singh along with his 9 members of Guru Nanak Nagar Gataka Akharha displayed their performance in the School as part of the program. Gataka includes the Sikh Martial Art “Shashtar Vidya” started by sixth Sikh Guru “Har Gobind Sahib Ji”. Gataka is a unique and inexpensive fighting art developed to defend and display fighting skills and to better exercise self-control.
