DM Ramban discusses road safety measures

RAMBAN: District Road Safety Committee meeting was held today under the chairmanship of District Magistrate, Showkat Aijaz Bhat to discuss road safety measures for reducing accidents, creating awareness about road safety, safety audit of roads and improvement of roads.

The meeting was attended by SSP, Anita Sharma, SSP, Traffic, JS Johar, ADDC, Nawab din, ADC, Dr. Basharatn Hussain, ACR, Harvans Lal, CPO, Kasturi Lal, ASP, Sanjay Parihar, ARTO, Mohd. Saleem, Xen PWD, PMGSY, PHE, NGOs, officers of construction companies including GAMMON and HCC.

The DDC directed the construction agencies to install CCTV cameras, parapets and signages on identified vulnerable points on NHW from Nashri to Banihal. He directed them to properly maintain the existing National highway for the convenience of commuters besides deputed flag man for regulating traffic smoothly.

District Magistrate directed the construction companies to erect florescent painted crash barriers and reflector sign boards at critical points like Nashri, Kunfer Bridge, Digdole, Khooni Nallah, Anookhi Fall, Ramsoo, Digdol, Shitan Nallah, Sher bibi, Battary Chashma and Hingni etc

Meanwhile, the DDC constituted committees headed by SDMs and ACR with Xens of PWD and PMGSY and concerned SDPO and Dy. SP Traffic for verifying the condition of link roads besides exploring the possibility of issuance of rout permit to metadore to local youths.

He directed the construction companies to install emergency contact numbers with "May I Help" sign board on identified locations. EOs of MC Ramban, Banihal and Batote were directed to maintain drainage system along the highway and removal of encroachments.

Police and traffic department were asked to be more pro-active and responsive for curbing traffic rule violators. ARTO was directed to take initiatives to curb the menace of over loading, over speeding, over charging, wrong parking, drunken driving, under age driving, fitness of vehicles etc on NHW and various link roads.
