State Handball meet gets underway

JAMMU: Organised by the J&K Handball Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), the 6th State Championship started today at STC grounds, MA Stadium, here.

Chief Sports Officer (CSO) of JKSSC, Hazi Abdul Qayoom was the chief guest while former India Handball captain and SSP with J&K Police, Ranjit Singh Chib was guest of honour in the opening function.

Over 10 teams, including J&K Police and STC Jammu are taking part in this competition being held on league cum knockout basis.

In the opening men's matches, Baramulla defeated district Kathua 16-11 while Poonch outplayed district Bandipora 10-03. In other scheduled matches, Jammu district trounced Budgam 13-04 and J&K Police made it a 11-03 win against Budgam. Other Results: J&K Police bt Bandipora 13-0; STC Jammu bt Kathua 13- 06 goals; Udhampur bt Kupwara 5-1.
