Two days National Conference Commences at JU

JAMMU: The Department of Computer Science & IT and Directorate of Quality Assurance, University of Jammu organized a two days National Conference on 'Emerging Trends in Quality Assurance and Enhancement in Software Development' in the Department of Computer Science & IT.

Prof. Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu in his inaugural address highlighted the existing status, challenges and implications of Data Science in the world and for the Indian professionals in particular.

Prof Dhar said that Human genome project was followed by many other sequencing projects, which led to explosion of data on DNA sequencing or protein sequencing.

Analyzing of this huge data became possible with help of computers and softwares which led to emergence of a new discipline known as Science of the century i.e. Bioinformatics. Using statistical models and computational techniques the Human Genome project which took years to complete can now be done in a week time.

Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma, Head, Department of Computer Science & IT in his welcome address apprised the delegates about the different academic & research activities being taken up by the department. He gave a brief glimpse about the journey of the department from inception to the present scenario.

Prof. Dharminder Kumar, former Dean Engineering and Chairman, CSE Guru Jambeshwar Technical University, Hisar in his keynote address talked about the different quality parameters and challenges being faced in higher education. He focused on the theme of the conference wherein he emphasized upon the need of serious research in the field of software development.

Prof. Vibhakar Mansotra, Dean, Mathematical Sciences also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the department to keep organizing such types of academic activities in the department in near future to give exposure to students & scholars of the department.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance, and Registrar, University of Jammu in her address, spoke about the importance of quality assurance. She assured the department for all types of support in near future for organizing such type of activities.

Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, organizing secretary of the conference apprised the guests & delegates about the conference theme along with the details of the proceedings of the conference.

It is pertinent to mention here that the conference has been divided into four technical sessions wherein more than forty papers have been selected for presentation. Each paper presentation session is being followed by discussion on the issues raised by the scholars in their presentations.

Among others Prof Lalit Mangotra, Prof G.S Sambyal, Prof Vinod Sharma, Heads of various departments, Dr. Suresh Rao, Jasbir Singh, Dr. Shubhnandan, Dr. Jatinder Manhas, Amit Sharma, Saurabh Shastri, faculty members, officers of the University, students, scholars and delegates from various institution inside & outside the state were also present on the occasion.
