MIER College organizes Guest Lecture on using ‘Reference Management Software'

JAMMU: The Center for Educational Research (CER) at MIER College of Education organized a guestlecture on the theme 'Mendeley: Reference Management Software and Researcher Network.' The resource person was Dr. Neerendra Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Central University of Jammu.

Prof. Adit Gupta, Director MIER and Principal MIER College chaired the session. Other present on the occasion were Prof. N.R. Sharma Dean Academics, Dr. MoolrajHOD PG Deptt, Dr. H.R Shan Controller of Examinationalong with the faculty and students of the PG Department of Education.

Dr. Nishta Rana, Head CER extended a warm welcome to the resource person and introduced him as an expert in the field of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. She further said that Dr. Kumar is a distinguished researcher who haspresented and published at the national and international level.

In his address, Dr. Kumar said thatreference or citation management software is for scholars and authors for recording and utilizing bibliographic citations (references) as well as managing research project references either at the institution or an individual level.

He discussed the role of Mendeley,a reference management software which automatically inserts references in the text and generates bibliography as per the required style of the publication.

Dr. Kumar walked the audience through different steps of the software from its free download to different functions with appropriate examples.

He highlighted that this software not only helps in managing research but also in academic networking and collaboration. This was followed by an active interaction session where the faculty members and students clarified their doubts and queries.

Dr. Adit Gupta in his presidential remarks said this software can help faculty members and studentsto add references from different platforms in addition to formatting them into an appropriate format.

Since this is a cloud based software linked to its desktop or mobile application, it provides greater flexibility in access and use of the reference material which leads to greater productivity and academic collaboration.

Dr. Bharti Tandon, Assistant Professor, PG Department MIER College presented a formal vote of thanks to the distinguished speaker and the audience.
