Martyred Major’s wife tops SSB, to join Indian Army as tribute to husband

MUMBAI: Gauri Prasad Mahadik, the widow of Major Prasad Ganesh Mahadik, has cleared her Services Selection Board Examinations, and is set to join Indian Army as a tribute to her martyred husband. "I'll wear my husband's uniform and his stars," she proudly says.

Major Prasad lost his life in a fire accident near the Indo-China Border in December 2017.

Gauri has cleared her SSB exams in the 'widow' category, and will be joining the Indian Army's Officers Training Academy in Chennai to undergo 49 weeks of training. She will be commissioned as a lieutenant in the non-technical category for war widows.

Gauri is a qualified lawyer and a company secretary, but left her job when her husband got martyred, to prepare herself for the armed forces. She will be inducted in the army in March 2020.
