High level meeting convened for Kathua Ujh Multipurpose Project

NEW DELHI: A high-level meeting was held in New Delhi today to ensure early start of work on Ujh Multipurpose Irrigation Project in Kathua.

The meeting was called at the request of Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, it was convened by Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari and was presided over Governor Satyapal Malik.

Senior officers of Central and State governments were also present.

Ujh project had been held up for several decades and with the constant effort of Dr Jitendra Singh, it has been revived and the DPR has been prepared with an estimated budget of Rs.5,850 crore.

Meanwhile, the construction work of Shahpur Kandi Project has already started and was also mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his public rally in Jammu.

The two projects, Shahpur Kandi and Ujh, together will be game-changers, as far as irrigation and power supply is concerned for district Kathua, parts of district Udhampur and district Gurdaspur in Punjab.
