22 train services including Shri Mata Vaishno Devi-Ahmedabad Sarvodaya Express extended

Jammu Tawi-Udhampur DMU extended upto Pathankot

NEW DELHI: Minister of Railways & Coal, Piyush Goyal announced extension of 22 train services, including Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Ahmedabad Sarvodaya Express, which has been extended upto Gandhi Dham, and Jammu-Udhampur DMU upto Pathankot.

The DMU service between Jammu Tawi-Udhampur, train number 74906/74907, has been extended upto Pathankot station. The stoppages on the extended portion shall be all stations en-route, as per the notification.

The other train service that got extension is Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Ahmedabad Sarvodaya Express. The train number 12473/12474 which has now been extended upto Gandhidham, shall have stoppages at Viramgam, Dharangdhara and Samakhayali stations.

Speaking of the occasion, Piyush Goyal said, to reduce additional lie-over time of the trains and emphasising on "sweating the assets", we have decided extension of numerous trains across various Zones of Indian Railways."The extension of train services running on Indian Railways’ system will provide additional connectivity between various places in the country," the statement read.

He added that the first successful experiment of extension was introduced on Gatiman Express, which was extended from Agra to Gwalior and then to Jhansi. Accordingly, the following extension of 22 pairs of train services will help in development of these areas and will also help to utilize our resources to the full extent.

"All these extensions have been planned by utilizing the lie-over periods of the existing trains at their respective terminating stations. These extensions will help in more gainful utilization of Coaching Stock and will augment revenue of Indian Railways. The above trains are extended using present assets with maximum utilization."

Chairman, Railway Board, Vinod Kumar Yadav, Member Traffic, Railway Board, Girish Pillai and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
