Real Kashmir beat JKP 5-4 in tie-breaker

JAMMU: The departmental side of Jammu and Kashmir Police held the professional Club of Real Kashmir to goalless draw in the stipulated time only to lose the game in tie-breaker 5-4 after the extra time of 10 minutes yielded no results at BSF Stadium, here today.

In fact, the friendly match was organised to make it an occasion for presenting the first instalment of Rs 6 crore financial assistance to the Kashmir based Football Club spread over three years. The historical decision of the SAC was implemented with the handing over of the cheque to the management of the Real Kashmir by the Governor, Satya Pal Malik in the presence of Advisors, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police game show.

"This is just a beginning, the Real Kashmir has earned a name for the State in the field of sports thus provided an opportunity for others to play and excel in world's most loved game of Football. Giving background of the game right from its modest beginning from England as a compulsion to turned around the lethargic and not masculine young men way back in 1860. The game was made compulsory and then football spread to the world," said the Governor.

He also quoted the example of Latin America where poor and young barefooted youth took up the game in a big way and struggled to turn their fortunes around by becoming rich men in their life.

"There are lot of struggle stories in the lives of football players in Latin America. These young men later became stars of the world. The Indian team once played in the Olympics, so we have to go, struggle and succeed. We see a hope in Real Kashmir," added the Governor.

Unwilling to address the crowd after witnessing the well contested game, the Governor, who took up the mike on the request of DGP, Dilbag Singh appreciated the J&K Police for holding the professional side, who has to their credit wins against the top clubs of the country in the ongoing League, to a goalless draw.

He concluded saying that Government is ready to support and encourage other sports disciplines in Kashmir on the lines of Real Kashmir.
