Institute of Mountain Environment on Socio-economic and environmental of Zanskar region organises One day seminar

BHADERWAH: One day seminar was organized by the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhadarwah Campus, Jammu University on ‘Socio-Economic and Political Challenges: Voices of Marginalized'.

Prof. Anil K. Raina was the chief guest of the seminar, Executive councilor, Er. Phunchok Tashi was guest of honour, Prof. Dipanker Sengupta was key note speaker and Prof. Anuradha Sharma was special guest.

Other eminent speakers were Stanzin, Lakpa, Stanzin Jigmat, Tsering Angdus, Abass, Rigzin Tsewang, Ven. Mingyour Dorjey and Jamphel.

The convener of the conference ChheringTandup welcomes the guest and introduced the themes of the seminar. Prof. Anil K. Raina mentioned that the area is very remote and interior because of that it remained backward.

There is need to give special packages for the development of the region. Er. Phunchok Tashi has mentioned that the policy which are framing at center level at Delhi is not fit for the geographical condition of Zanskar.

There is need to policy formulation through the grass root level. Prof. DipankerSengupta mentioned that connectivity is an important aspects and Zanskar is going to connect with Manali in couple of years.

He stressed upon the challenges they will face after the opening Of Manali- Padum road.

He stressed Zanskar is going to change tremendously in coming years. Prof. Anuradha Sharma pointed on Digital literacy of that region. Digital literacy is one of the important parameters of the development.

The seminar was followed by two technical sessions on various themes like connectivity, development, representation, economic challenges, social andenvironmental issues.

The blue print of the seminar will come very soon with proper recommendation, suggestions for future challenges and policies. ShayanJaveed, Asstt. Professor presented formal vote of thanks.
