NASI in Collaboration with JU organizes Meghnad Saha Lecture

JAMMU: The National Academy of Sciences, India, Jammu Chapter organized Prof. Meghnad Saha Memorial Lecture in collaboration with Department of Physics, University of Jammu, to celebrate the life and teachings of Professor Saha, founder President , The National Academy of Sciences on his 125th birth anniversary.

On this occasion, the seminar hall of the Dept of Physics was also inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor stressed on the organization of such lectures to build scientific temperament among the young scholars and budding scientists for productive research.

Prof Dhar urged upon young scholars' and faculty members to actively involve in high quality research and publish their findings in highly reputed impact factor journals. Further, Prof Dhar reiterated that the grants received under RUSA are planned in such a way as to give maximum exposure and benefit to young faculty and scholars by inviting international faculty, developing curriculum as per international standards and creating an enabling research environment.

Earlier, Prof. R.N Gohil, Secretary, NASI spoke on the role of Prof. Meghnad Saha in upliftment of the standards of Science and making it relevant to the society. He further emphasized on the its present endeavours of NASI to uplift the status of science to reach masses. He also deliberated on the role of Prof. Meghnad Saha in shaping NASI to what it is now.

Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Sciences also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Prof P V K S Baba, Head, Dept of Physics delivered lecture on " Scientific contributions of Indian Scientists and their impact on society." Prof Baba recalled the contributions of Prof M.Saha, who was an Indian Astrophysicist best known for his development of the Saha Ionization equation used to describe chemical and physical condition in stars. Saha was the first scientist to relate a star's spectrum to its temperature. Saha was also elected to the Parliament of India in 1952.

Among others Prof Rajnikant, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, faculty members , research scholars and students were also present on the occasion.
