12th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament | Sports Saviours loses game, win hearts

JAMMU: Playing their first game in an event, the newly formed Sports Saviours FC by a group of senior players, won the hearts of the spectators but lost the game only in sudden death to DFA Anantnag in the ongoing 12th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here today.

The team, led by former J&K Police skipper and comprised mostly the young boys, dominated fields throughout the 75 minutes game through their technical play. However, they could not convert as many as six easy goal chances came their way in the first half of the play.

The power-packed side still maintained their upper hand after the breather but only to find the opponent turned defensive sparing no chance of breaking the defence line. The match ended in a goalless draw thereby forcing it to be decided via tie-breaker.

In the penalty kicks, DFA Anantnag turned out of be lucky and won the game 5-4 in sudden death. Earlier, in tie-breaker, the game again ended 3-3 draw. In penalties, Dawood, Mukhtar Dar, Zahid Riyaz, Umar Bashir (goal-keeper) and Musaib were the scorers while Max, Sidharth, Mohit (goal-keeper) and Pranab successfully converted their kicks into goals from Sports Savours FC.

Meanwhile, in another scheduled match of the day, Hero Club defeated Param FC by a solitary goal to qualify for the pre-quarterfinals. The only goal of the match came through Lakshit in the 25th minute.

Today's matches officiated by the technical penal including Dheeaj Meenia, Rocky, Ricky, Ajay Singh, Abhishek, Rahul, Nitika and Mohinder Kalsi (Physio).

FIXTURE: Churchill Brothers V/s Arco FC Kashmir at 12 noon; Titan FC Anantnag V/s Hero FC at 1.30 pm; Young Rovers V/s J&K Bank Academy at 3 pm tomorrow.
