State gymnast Bavleen clinches J&K's first gold at KIYG 2019

JAMMU: Gymnast Bavleen Kaur secured gold for J&K in the women's Under-17 all-round rhythmic gymnastics event at Khelo India Youth Games 2019 recently.

Bavleen won with a total 43.40 points against Maharashtra's Shreya Bhangale who secured 39.70 points.

The rhythmic gymnastics event included Ribbon and Hoop performances that proved to be significant as she earned scores of 12.05 and 11.95 respectively.

Earlier at the Khelo India School Games 2018, Bavleen had won two gold medals besides a silver and bronze. Her consistent performances at the Rhythmic Gymnastics Nationals in 2018 played a vital role in Jammu and Kashmir winning the overall championship at that event.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah applauded Bavleen for her performace. He tweeted, "Congratulations to Bavleen Kaur for winning the first gold medal for J&K in Pune. She won in the Rhythmic Gymmastics discipline. Congratulations to her coaches Ms Krupali Singh and SP Singh as well."
