Vatsal bags Bronze in SGFI Skating meet

JAMMU: Vatsal Gupta brought laurels to the state by winning Bronze medal in the 3000 meters road race in under-17 category in the SGFI National Championship held at Belgaum in Karnataka.

Medal was eluding this young skater at the national level despite his top ranking at the state level, but this time he was confident enough to make it to the winning podium.

Son of Sanjay Gupta and Reema Gupta, a student of KC International School, Vatsal owes his success to veteran skating coach, Madan Khajuria.

"Despite being State Champion for the last more than six years and winning medals at CBSE game, the winning Podium was eluding him despite reaching many finals at nationals and SGFI games. At times he was so depressed that he started thinking of quitting the game but we advised him never to lose faith in him which ultimately got converted in medal," said Madan Khajuria.

Vastal, along with Vansh Kotwal and Rajbir Singh reached finals in other events also and remained fourth in 1000 mtrs Rink race. Dhruv Gupta also reached the finals in 1000 meters Rink Race in under-19 age group.
