Chairman SHRC inaugurates UGC Course on Human Rights at JU

JAMMU: A three week UGC refresher course for University and College Teachers being organised by Jammu University Human Resource Development Centre was inaugurated by Justice Bilal Nazki Chairman, J&K State Human Rights Commission in presence of Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Manoj Dhar while emphasising the need for organising such refresher courses for teachers, highlighted the importance of Human Rights in the progression of civil society.

He called upon the teachers to make the best use of this opportunity in order to upgrade their knowledge on the subject of Human Rights. Justice Bilal Nazki in his presidential address expressed happiness that the University of Jammu through this UGC Course would be orienting teachers from various subjects on the Important issues on human rights in the contemporary times. Justice Nazki called for augmenting the efforts for creating awareness about human rights in the society, which are so very essential for the overall development of an individuals."

Justice Nazki in his illuminating address also narrated many anecdotes from his wide experience as a jurist in order to explain the different human rights violation that one sees around in his/her day to day life and remedial measures therein.

"Human beings tend to carry baggage's which are usually entrusted by our families and other situational factors. We should all be conscious of our rights and should try to live in ways that do not harm others, Justice Nazki added.

Earlier, the dignitaries were welcomed by Prof JPS Joorel, Director, HRDC. , Dr Samriddhi Arora, Course Coordinator in her address gave a brief overview about the course and the various areas of study that would be covered in the refresher course. Dr. Sarika Manhas (Co- coordinator of the Course) introduced the Chief guest of the occasion to the audience, highlighting the relevance of Human rights in our state.

Ranjit Kalra, Teaching faculty, HRDC, JU presented formal vote of thanks.The program was conducted by Ms Kirti, Research Scholar of the Department of Home Science.

Prominent among others who were present on the occasion were Jung Bhadur Singh, Retired Session Judge, J&K High Court and member J&K State Human Rights Commission, Prof. Rajni Dhingra and Prof. Neeru Sharma Sr. Faculty members of the Deptt of Home Science, Prof. Shashi Manhas Head Department of Home Science.
