Army celebrates International Day of the Girl Child

RAJOURI: Army celebrated "International Day of the Girl Child" at various Schools & colleges of Rajouri and Poonch District.

The day is observed to spread awareness amongst the local population about the gender inequalities such as right to education, nutrition, medical care, violence and child marriage etc faced by the girls in our society. The celebration of the day also reflects the changing mindset of our society and successful emergence of girls and young women in the society. A large number of teachers, students, parents and prominent members of the society participated in the event.

Multiple activities like lectures on 'Importance of Girl Child', 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao', Essay Writing Competition, Painting Competition, and cultural programmes were organised at various schools to include Universal Higher Secondary School, Daraba, Army Goodwill School, Potha, Govt Degree College, Mendhar, Model Academy, Dara Dullian, Govt Senior Secondary School, Khorinar, Govt High School, Magnar and Govt High School, Dhargloon.

On the occasion, speakers from different sections of the society highlighted the importance of protecting girl child from any kind of discrimination. The audience was also told about various schemes initiated by the Govt to promote women empowerment in order to improve the status of women in the society.
