Municipal polls: Excise Department implements dry days

KATHUA: With the onset of Phase II of Municipal Elections 2018, on the directions of Excise Commissioner Talat Parvez Rohella and supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Jammu Puneet Sharma and Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur Ashish Kumar Gupta, a joint team of staff of Excise Range Kathua and Toll Post Lakhanpur comprising of ETO Savita Chouhan, Excise Range Kathua, ETO Virender Gupta, Toll Post Lakhanpur, Inspectors Ravinder Singh, Arun Kumar, Razi Ahmad & Bilal Ahmad, Sub Inspectors Amit Sharma and Sanjeev Kumar, Excise Guards Rajinder Singh, Shamsher Dev Singh, Om Dutt, Aqeel Ahmad, Varun Sharma and Kunwar Singh conducted patrolling, raids, laid Nakas and checking to ensure complete dry days.

wards for Municipal Elections, 2018- Phase II for Kathua, Nagri Parole, Basholi, Billawar, Lakhanpur and Hiranagar were observed from October 8 to 10, 2018. A total of one trade license and 27 wine shops/bars were closed. A series of Nakas were laid at Mandi, Kharkra, Goondh and Lakhanpur for three consecutive days to ensure complete prohibition on smuggling of liquor within the Municipal limits.

Raids were also conducted in Khokyal, Chartyala and Banyari villages to arrest the menace of illicit distillation and sale of liquor.

In the process a total of 50 litres and 75 pouches of illicit liquor besides 200 litres of Lahan, raw material of illicit liquor were recovered by the raiding team from State land and later destroyed on spot.
