Northern Army commander reviews security situation in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army's Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, visited the Kashmir valley on Friday to review the security situation and also called on Governor Satya Pal Malik.

"The Northern Army commander began his two-day visit to Kashmir to review the security situation in the valley," an Army spokesman said.

He said Lt Gen Singh met Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen A K Bhatt and Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh, and held discussions with them over the prevailing security situation in the valley.

Later, the Northern Army commander called on the governor at the Raj Bhavan here, an official spokesman said.

He said Lt General Singh briefed the governor about the security situation in the state and about Thursday's anti-militancy operation held at Jhajjar Kotli in Jammu region.

The governor and the Northern Army commander discussed important issues relating to effective internal security management in the wake of the fresh infiltration along the International Border, the spokesman said.
