JU beat Kashmir University to reach VC Cup semis

JAMMU: University of Jammu (JU) today defeated the hosts, University of Kashmir (KU) by nine runs to qualify for the semifinals of the ongoing All India Vice Chancellor's Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament.

Earlier, batting first, JU set a target of 123 runs, which, KU could not chase and bowled out for 113 runs. Skipper Rajesh Salhotra played yet another brilliant innings of 23-ball 46 runs while Niranjan Singh contributed 25 runs to the total, the reports reaching here said.

Batting second, KU could not face the bowling wrath of JU, especially the spells from Avtar and Sandeep and lost all their wickets for 114 runs. Both Avtar and Sandeep claimed three wickets each while, Balwant took two. Rajesh and Sumit shared apiece each.

Later, Rajesh Salhotra declared man of the match for his all round performance.

Meanwhile, Registrar, JU, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam and Director Sports, Dr. Daud Iqbal appreciated the performance of the JU side and wished them success in the following games.
