Supreme Court stays J&K HC order, no food allowed inside theatre

JAMMU: The Apex Court today stayed a J&K High Court order that allowed people to carry food and water inside the cinema halls.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Rohinton F Nariman stayed the J&K High Court order dated July 18, 2018. The advocates representing Multiplex Association of India had highlighted the security and hygiene risks involved in allowing the food and water inside the theatres.

Out of several directions given to the cinema halls by the J&K HC, the top court has only stayed the direction that allowed people to carry their food and water inside theatres.

The bench has asked state government and the petitioners who favoured allowing food inside cinema halls, to respond in four weeks. The top court has put the matter for further hearing after six weeks.

A PIL was filed in J&K HC by Sidharth Anand and other, after which the court had asked the owners of the cinema halls to allow food and water inside the theatre, and stern action would be taken for non-compliance of the order.
