Two J&K Wushu players selected for 18th Asian Games

JAMMU: Wushu players made the J&K State proud by reserving three berths for the Asian Games 2018 at Palembang Jakarta from August 18 to September 2, 2018.

Kuldeep Handoo, National Chief Coach of India, is leading the 18-member Indian team comprising 13 players, four Coaches and a manager for the Asian Games.

Kuldeep Handoo is leading the Indian Wushu team consecutively third time for Asian Games. Earlier, he led the Indian team in 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and Incheon 2014 Asian Games.

In the previous two games, Indian team secured four medals including one silver and three bronze.
Surya Bhanu Partap Singh, two times consecutive bronze medalist in the World Championship and silver medalist in the World Cup, has reserved berth for the Asian Games.

Pertinent to mention here that Surya Bhanu remained the first person of the State who has been listed in the TOPS scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Pradeep Kumar, who recently secured silver medal in 7th PARS Cup at Iran and gold medal in the Friendship Peace Cup at Iran, also confirmed his entry in the Indian squad. Pradeep has secured good number of medals in the national and international level championships.

Indian Wushu team for the Asian Games: Sanda: Santosh Kumar, Surya Bhanu Partap Singh, Narender Grewal, Pradeep Kumar, Y Sanathoi Devi and Roshibina Devi.

Taolu: M Gyandash Singh, Chirag Sharma, Anjul Namdeo, Sajan Lama, Suraj, Sanatombi Devi and Punshiva Metei.

Coaches: Kuldeep Handoo (National Chief Coach), Rajesh Kumar Tailor, Rajvir Singh, Ravi Prakash Tripathi and Manish Kacker (Manager).

The Office bearers of Wushu Association of J&K S Owais, H.K Lohia, Vijay Saraf, Ranjeet Kalra, Deepak Handa, Sunil Sharma and Sohit Sharma congratulated Kuldeep Handoo and the entire team for the games especially Surya Bhanu Partap and Pradeep Kumar and wished best of luck to both the players and hope they will come with flying colours in the games.
