Petrol, diesel prices rise after two-day

NEW DELHI: Retail fuel prices rose on Thursday after remaining constant for last two days. Petrol price rose by 5-6 paise per litre in major cities of India while diesel became costlier by 7 paise per litre on Thursday.

After today's revision, petrol was priced at Rs 76.59 per litre in the national capital Delhi and diesel was sold at Rs 68.30.Similarly, in other major cities like Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, petrol was retailing at Rs 83.97, Rs 79.49 and Rs 79.26 respectively. Meanwhile, diesel was retailing at Rs 72.47 per litre in Mumbai, Rs 72.10 in Chennai and Rs 70.85 in Kolkata.

Today's Petrol price in Jammu is 78.35 . The price of Petrol being 78.11 in the last month and the average price of Petrol in Jammu in the last month is 77.83.

Retail petrol prices depend on international crude oil rates, rupee-dollar exchange rate, excise duty and state specific VAT. It may be noted the Union government levies Rs 19.48 a litre of excise duty on petrol and Rs 15.33 per litre on diesel.

However, state sales tax or VAT differ from state to state. Mumbai has the highest VAT of 39.12 per cent on petrol, while Delhi charges a VAT of 27 per cent on petrol and 17.24 per cent on diesel.
