Climber Shivani wins All India Lead title

JAMMU: Shivani Charak, an ace sport climber of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK), won the coveted women's title in the 1st IMF All India Lead Climbing Competition which concluded at Nowgam, Srinagar.

With this win against some prominent international climbers she has further consolidated her position of being one of the top woman sport climbers of India in all the three forms of Climbing.

Earlier, in the semi final Shivani was not in her usual rhythm and finished behind the leader Shivpreet Pannu of Punjab. However, she came back very strongly in the final round and topped the wall in style to win the Gold medal. No other climber could top the wall. Siddimanerikar and Dhanashri Lekurwale, both of Maharashtra, secured the second and third places. Shilpa Charak, another climber of Mountaineering Association of J&K, climbed well to finish at the sixth place.

Another notable performance was given by Ajay Deep Singh in the boys category. Pitted against some international climbers Ajay Deep kept his cool to enter the final round by securing third place in the semifinal. However, he could not repeat his performance in the final and slipped to the fourth place.

Similarly, four other climbers of the Association, Rudra Partap Singh and Randeep Singh in the Sub Junior Boys Category, Asma Gul in the Girls category and Mrityunjay Sharma in the Men's category also displayed good technique and temperament to enter the final rounds in their respective categories but finally could secure only fifth, ninth, sixth and 11th position respectively.

Meanwhile, Shivani Charak who has been selected to represent India in the 18th Asian Games to be held at Jakarta-Palenbang (Indonesia) from August 18 to September two, 2018 shall now proceed to Bhuvneshwar (Orissa) for her special training for the Asian Games.
