STC trainees in National Basketball team

JAMMU: Abhinav Sharma and Sumit Kumar of the SAI Training Centre (STC) Jammu have been selected amongst the probable for the National Junior Basketball team on the basis of their performance in the just concluded 69th Junior National Championship at Ludhiana in Punjab.

Both the trainees, if shortlisted further, shall be eligible for Khelo India scholarships. However, Gourav Rajwal, another trainee of the STC Jammu, was left out despite his outstanding performance in the championship due to height bar of 180 cm which was fixed by the selection committee, a handout issued here today informed.

Important to mention here that J&K team put up their best ever performance at any National event, winning six of the seven matches. During their dream run, J&K registered convincing victories against Odisha, Bihar, Goa, West Bengal and Mizoram and got a walkover against Chhatisgarh. The State team lost to their lone game to Uttrakhand after leading till the third quarter.

The team which returned today was received with flowers by the parents and the members of the J&K Basketball Association. President JKBA Vikramaditya Singh, secretary Dr Vikram Handa and treasurer Ashok Singh have appreciated the unprecedented performance of the J&K team, the handout mentioned.
