NDF conducts seminar on ‘Water conservation’ in GDC Kathua

KATHUA: A college level seminar on the topic, "Role of the youth in promoting water safety, conservation and proper sanitation" was organized by National Development Foundation with sponsorship from Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Department of PHE, I & FC in Govt. Women Degree College Kathua. Kulvinder Kour Principal Women Degree College Kathua was the chief guest.

Ten students participated in the seminar and expressed their views on importance and ways of water conservation. The seminar was witnessed by approx. 250 students. Asstt. Prof. Umesh Kailoo, Asstt. Prof. Ravinder Kour and Asstt. Prof. Madhuri were the judges during the seminar. Stage was conducted by Dr. Yash Pal Sharma. Other presents on the occasion include Executive Engineer PHE Kathua Er. Ajay Gupta, Deepu Raina, Rohit Sharma, Nisha Mantoo, faculty members and students.

Megha Sharma bagged first position, Geetika Bharti bagged 2nd position and Stuti Padha bagged the third position. Two consolation prizes were also given to Mona Andotra and Shivali Saini. Others who participated in the seminar include Sakshi Sharma, Monika Devi, Meenu Padha, Dolly Priya, and Arti Sharma. Prizes and certificates were distributed among all the participants. Water testing through Field testing kits was also demonstrated among the participants. Participants were also sensitized on water conservation, rain water harvesting and hygienic practices. A pledge on water safety and security was also taken by all the guests and participants.

Principal, Kulvinder Kour while speaking on the occasion stressed on the importance of water and need to save it. She linked the importance of water with our daily routines from morning till night. She quoted examples of various water bodies like Mansar lake and others that are contaminated by humans. She called upon the students to be the brand ambassadors for water safety and security and asked the students to come forward in case they witness any leakage or wastage of water.
