Sports fraternity pays tribute to Hockey coach

POONCH: Entire sports fraternity of district Poonch paid tributes to the sports promoter and retired hockey coach of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sham Lal Sharma, who died in a road accident on February 5.

Sharma was on his way back home from a national hockey event when the car he was driving met with an accident near Rajouri town. A native of Poonch, Sham Lal was popular among those associated with sports, especially the game of hockey.

To pay tributes to the departed soul trainees at Sports Stadium Poonch light candles and prayed to the Almighty God for peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear the irreparable loss.

Treasurer of Hockey Jammu and Kashmir, Sham Lal was active in the game of hockey for 35 years. He was considered to be the ‘Pillar of Hockey in J&K'.
The entire staff, players and officials of Sports Stadium Poonch held a condolence meeting and shared the time spend with the hockey coach.

Meanwhile, the players of Power House Club and other hockey lovers have requested the district administration to install a statue of Sham Lal Sharma at Sports Stadium Poonch as tribute to his unmatched contributions in the field of field of hockey.
