WAI appoints Kuldeep of J&K as chief coach

JAMMU: The Wushu Association of India (WAI) has appointed Kuldeep Handoo of Jammu and Kashmir as Chief Coach for the 18th Asian Games to be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September four.

The appointment was made by the selection committee during the a recent meeting of the WAI held at its headquarters at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Kuldeep, an officer with J&K Police shall be assisted by four other coaches Rajesh Kumar Tailor (Rajasthan), Rajvir Singh (CRPF), Ravi Prakash Tripathi ( SAI NS NIS Patiala)and M Sachidananda Singh (Manipur) during the preparatory camps.

The meeting also finalized 68 National campers and supporting staff for the 1st Phase of the camp, organised by Sports Authority fo India (SAI) at SAI Bhopal. The camp stated today.

Kuldeep started his coaching career in 2008 with Junior team for the World and Asian Championship. On the basis of his performance, he was elevated with Senior Wushu team for the 16th Asian Games at Guangzhou in 2010. Since 2010 Asian Games, he was the part of the Indian Wushu team for the World and Asian Games and Asian Championships. In 2014, he also accompanied the Indian Wushu team for the 17th Asian Games at Incheon (Korea).

Handoo also accompanied the Indian Wushu team for the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th World Wushu championships.

Recently, in the 14th World Wushu championship held at Russia, Indian Wushu team created history by winning first ever Gold medal in the World championship under his supervision and able guidance. In 2016 He accompanied the Indian Wushu team for the 12th South Asian Games held at Guwhati, organized by Indian Olympic association.

As a player, Kuldeep remained unbeaten champion for 11 consecutive years and has six medals in the International events. He produced more than 30 International players among them 02 International players namely Surya Bhanu Partap and Rajinder Singh made the country and state proud by winning medals in the World Championship and Asian Championship, which is the history in J&K.

Meanwhile, as per a handout issued here today, Wushu Association of J&K congratulated Kuldee Handoo for the achievement. Among those office bearers send their good wishes were H K Lohia, Vijay Saraf (president). Ranjeet Kalra, Deepak Handa, Mozam Bakshi, Sunil Sharma (all vice presidents) and Sohit Sharma (treasurer).
