J&K Bank wins Christmas Gold Cup Football trophy

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Bank clinched the 11th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament outplaying fighting J&K Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) via tie-breaker in the title clash at GGM Science College ground, here.

Both the teams displayed their skills to the toughest but a brilliant display of skills by goal-keeper, Nirdosh in the penalty shoot outs sealed the victory for his team.

Mid-fielder Rohit Kumar and defender Waseem also showed some terrific skills to keep the match alive for J&K Bank against the attacking rivals.

The event was organised by All J&K Christian Welfare Association under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) involving 27 teams, including those top professional clubs.

In the final and valedictory function, State BJP vice-president, Yudhvir Sethi was chief guest while Vice President and Zonal Head Jammu of J&K Bank, Sunil Gupta was guest of honour.

Speaking to the gathering, Yudhvir Sethi called for more participation of younger generation in sporting activity to lead a healthier and a disciplined life. He said that India being young nation, the sports play a decisive role in channelizing the youth towards a progressive direction.

He praised the organisers for working for the welfare of the society and said that more organisations must come forward to contribute their part for the betterment of the society.
