Jammu West wins State Korfball trophy

JAMMU: Jammu West clinched Jammu South 9-8 in a closely contested final to lift the 15th Bhai Gurbux Singh Memorial State Korfball Championship held under the banner of J&K Korfball Association at Green Fields ground, here today.

Earlier, after the end of first half play, Jammu West was trailing 2-4 but the star-studded side fought back after the breather and turned the score around 9-8 to win the all important game.

From Jammu West, Mohit Singh Bhau contributed five goals while Vasharan added two. From Jammu South, Basu and Usman added four and two goals respectively.

District Pulwama remained third after they beat another Kashmir district of Shopian 7-01. Gulzar remained top scorer with three goals from winners Pulwama.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Jammu West beat Pulwama 18-08 and Jammu South beat Shopian 12-04.

Prominent among others present were Tarlok Singh, Manjeet Singh, R K Sharma and Gulzar (all office bearers of the Association).
