Wrestler Bhupinder of Punjab lifts Panthal Kesari dangal title

JAMMU: Wrestler Bhupinder of Ajanala in Punjab lifted the 118 annual Panthal Kesari dangal title defeating Kapil of Guru Hanuman Akhara Delhi in a closely contested main bout that took place at Panthal in distrtict Reasi.

Bhupinder was adjudged as the best wrestler of the dangal, which was organized by Shri Swami Nitya Nand Wrestling Association under the aegis of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.

The winner of title bout, Bhupinder was presented with a cash prize of Rs 22,000 in the additional to "Gurj (Gadda) and Patta" by chief guest, Joint Secretary of J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, who was accompanied by presiding guest, retired SP, Prithvi Raj Sharma and SHO Katra, Ravinder Singh Sambyal.

Runner-up, Kapil received his prize money Rs 18,000 from wrestling promoter and social activist, Ram Paul Sharma, Inspector Sushil Sharma and Virender Sharma. An expenditure of Rs 3, 25,000 incurred on this day-long competition, a handout issued by the Association claimed.

The SHO Katra, Ravinder Singh Sambyal, Inspector Sushil Sharma and District Horticulture officer Udhampur-Reasi, Virender Sharma were guests of honour.

In all, 70 bouts were decided in this dangal. The second main bout went to wrestler Kaka of RS Pura (Jammu) who defeated Ravi of Lalla Ram Akhara.

Members and technical officals who helped in smooth conduct of this dangal included Pritam Kumar Magotra (president), Mukesh Khajuria, Parsotam Kumar Khajuria (Bittu), Parsotam Mengi, Mohan Lal Sanmotra, Ved Parkash, Om Parkash Sanmotra, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Deepak Wazir, Krishan Lal N.I.S Wrestling Coach, Om Parkarsh Verma, Sat Paul Verma, Sunny (Airtel), Murli Dhar (Munna) and Raj Hussian.

Chief guest, Shiv Kumar Sharma, speaking on the occasion, thanked the Police Department and wrestling enthusiasts for their support. He had a word of praise for the organising and technical teams and assured that the Association shall continue to work for the development and promotion of wrestling in the State.
