Handball Women's Power Cup League from Jan 12

JAMMU: Endorsed by the Handball Federation of India (HFI) and an initiative of Kan Sports World, the Women's Power Cup Handball Super League shall be held at Karnail Singh Stadium, Delhi from January 12 to January 14.

The six team league, mostly from North Indian states, is first of its kind event being held in the discipline of Handball in the country. Top women players from the six states have been included in as many teams to make it an all women affair thereby giving the message of more women participation in sports.

The participating teams are J&K Snow Eagles, Himachal Pradesh Snatchers, Delhi Fighters, Punjab Peer's, Haryana Panthers and Uttar Pradesh Challengers.

Since handball is not that popular among women folk in J&K, only two girls have been given the representation. They are Poonam Kumar and Mega Langer (coach).

"A beginning has been made by the HFI in collaboration with Kan Sports World. I'm confident that such an event shall pave way for the big league culture in the discipline of Handball in India," said chairman of selection committee of HFI and international player, Ranjit Singh.
