State Chess meet gets underway

JAMMU: Organized by All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA) and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council, the State Chess Championship got underway at Nek Hotel, here today.

Around 100 players from different districts of the State are participating in this competition which is being held as per FIDE laws of chess in all the age categories in Senior, Under-19, Under-17, Under-15, Under-13, Under -11, Under -nine, Under -seven in boys and girls sections.

The championship was declared open by Chief Sports Officer of State Sports Council, Haji Abdul Qayoom while Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, Ravi Singh was guest of honour.

Earlier, speaking to the gathering, president of the AJKCA, Atul kumar Gupta said that the shall continue to expose young talented boys and girls to big events thereby provide them the platform to excel.

Also present were Arshid Ahmad Kolu (secretary AJKCA), AR Wani (senior vice president), Baldev Raj and Taranvir Singh Gujral (vice presidents), Dr AS Bhatia, Advisor, Khalid Amin (treasurer), Ashiq Ahmad and Raj kumar and Faisal Farooq (joint secretaries). DySP, Raj kumar is the chief organizer of this event while Vivek Bharti Gupta, Anil Kotwal and AR Wani are the Arbiters.
