Premier Chess League gets underway

JAMMU: Maiden Chess Premier league, an initiative of the All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA), started today at the premises of Press Club Jammu, here today. The event was declared open by Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Waheed-Ur-Rehman Parra, who was chief guest.

In all, nine teams comprising 63 players shall compete for the top honours during four-day first of its kind competition. The chief guest was accompanied by Joint Secretary of Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Divisional Sports Officer, Ravi Singh as also team owners and office bearers of the AJKCA. Mr Kuljeet Singh Jamwal is chief organiser of the event while Anil Kotwal has been appointed Chief Arbiter, who is assisted by Bindu Pathania as Deputy Arbiter.

Earlier, president of the AJKCA, Atul Kumar Gupta informed that Association has already organized 11 National level events including South Asian meet last year and also has imparted basic chess training to around 50000 young boys and girls of the state with the cooperation of different agencies.

The Teams: Chess Champs (Taranvir Singh Gujral), Chess Tigers (Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Jammu Chess Legends (Baldev Raj), Kings and Queens (Dr.AS Bhatia), Queen and Knight (Raj Kumar). Black and White (Vikas Nanda), White Knights (Atul kumar Gupta and Rakesh Kumar Gupta),Trikuta Wizards (Tarunveer Singh Bijral), Ridhima Chess (Ajay Sharma).
