Jammu Rising Stars lifts 2nd Diwali Cricket Championship

JAMMU: Jammu Rising Stars registered emphatic win against the Jammu Challengers Eleven in a super over game and lifted the "2nd Diwali Cricket Championship for Under-16 boys" by 3-2 in a five matches series, played at MA Stadium Cricket Ground here today.

The 2nd Diwali Cricket Championship was been organized by District Sports Council Jammu and Sports Promoters Club J&K under the Supervision of Rajesh Gill Member Jammu Sports Council & Former Ranji Player.

Rajesh Gill Coordinator of the event informed that the main objective for conducting the five matches series of 30 overs game on the occasion of Diwali for the under 16 cricketers was to provide platform to hone their skills so that they can perform well in the forthcoming national matches and may bring laurels for the state.

Prof. JP Singh Jooral Director HRDC Jammu University was the Chief Guest while Ranjeet Kalra Vice Chairman Sports Council Jammu was the Special Guest in the valediction function of the Championship.

While Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Prof. Jooral called upon the Young cricketers to work hard in order to realize their dream. He said that cricket as a career is also a new age option and talented cricketers shall surely make it to the state & national eleven. He also complemented the organizing committee for the smooth and successful conclusion of the event.

Ranjeet Kalra vice Chairman Jammu Sports Council also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the participating cricketers for their performances and discipline in the event. He also assured the players to conduct more events for them in coming future. Later on the Chief Guest and Special Guest distributed the trophies to the runners and winners.

Earlier, in the last match of the Championship, Jammu Rising Stars scored 156 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 25 overs . Musaif was the main scorer who scored unbeaten 103 runs with 10 boundaries, Abhay also made valuable 22 runs and Shiv Sagar contributed 13 runs to the total.

From Jammu Challengers eleven, Sachin took 2 wickets while Prayas took 1 wicket.

Jammu Challengers eleven, in reply also made 156 runs in the stipulated 25 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Surya scored 34 runs, Akshit with 30 and Sachin with 20 runs were the other scorers.

From bowling side Ashim took 2 wickets while Abay, Musiaf and Amit took 1 wicket.

While in super over batting first Jammu Challengers made 11 runs and Jammu Rising Stars won the match by scoring 12 runs.

Musaif was adjudged as the man of the match award for his super batting.

Sandeep Manchanda and Shugal were the Umpires in today's match of the championship while RP Singh conducting the proceedings of the valediction function.
