Spicy Shankarpali

Spicy Shankarpali Recipe is another popular name in kannda is tukdi prepared during diwali and ganesh chaturthi festival season. Shankarpara is a tasty indian snack from north kanrnataka, maharashtra and gujarat, which is especially prepared during festival seasons of diwali. kids are most attracted to this snack, as most commonly it is cut in a diamond shape.


• 1 cup maida / all-purpose flour / plain flour
• 1 tbsp semolina / bombay rava / sooji
• ¾ tsp chilli powder, add as per your spice level
• 1 tsp cumin seeds / jeera
• ¾ tsp sugar
• salt to taste
• 2 tbsp ghee / oil, hot
• water as required, to knead dough
• oil for deep frying

Instructions ( 1 cup =255 ml)

1. in a large mixing bowl take 1 cup maida.
2. to that add 1 tbsp rava, chilli powder, jeera, sugar and salt to taste.
3. mix all the dry ingredients well.
4. now pour hot ghee / oil over the flour. this helps to make shankarpali crispy.
5. crumble the ghee with dough well. rub with your hands. be careful as the ghee will be very hot.
6. now add water slowly and start to knead the dough.
7. knead the dough 5 minutes or till form stiff and tight dough.
8. cover with moist cloth and rest for 20-30 minutes.
9. knead again and pinch a large ball. flatten them as you do with chapathi ball.
10. now grease the rolling base and rolling pin, roll them into round / square shape making slightly thick than chapathi.
11. take a knife / pizza cutter and cut them into diamond or square shapes.
12. drop the shankarpali into hot oil.
13. flip over so that it cooks on both sides.
14. fry them to nice golden brown on low-medium flame.
15. drain them on kitchen towel to remove excess oil.
16. allow them to cool to room temperature and store them into an airtight container.
