Five killed, many houses and vehicles damaged in Himachal landslide

The landslide occurred around midnight at Kotrupi village of Padhar in Mandi district.

SHIMLA: Five persons were killed and many are feared trapped in a massive landslide in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday morning, an official said.

The landslide occurred around midnight and also damaged the Mandi-Pathankot national highway 154 at Kotrupi village of Padhar in Mandi district.

A bus and other vehicles are feared trapped in the debris. Five injured persons were taken to a hospital. People present on the spot said the rescue operation was affected by rains.

Mandi deputy commissioner Sandeep Kadam said the possibility of more deaths could not be ruled out.

"The army and NDRF have been called while police, home guard and fire services have already been deployed in the rescue and relief operation," Kadam said.
