VC Delhi University calls on Dr Jitendra Singh

NEW DELHI: Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Prof. Yogesh Kumar Tyagi called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today and discussed a wide range of issues related to various academic programmes and faculty assignments.

In a meeting lasting over half-an-hour, Dr Jitendra Singh shared with the Vice Chancellor, his experience about the various Universities in the Northeast, Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of the country and said that a premier institution like Delhi University could always be expected to provide academic and infrastructural support for the growth and upgradation of departments in peripherally located universities. He also disclosed to the Vice Chancellor that while he has solicited the services of former ISRO Chairman Dr K. Radhakrishnan to set up a teaching department of Space Technology in Central University, Jammu, a proposal has also been received to set up, the first of its kind, teaching department of administration / governance in the same University.

Pertinent to mention that from October last year, at the initiative of the Ministry of DoNER headed by Dr Jitendra Singh, an exclusive "APJ Kalam Chair of Studies" had been set up at Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, Shillong where the Late President Dr Kalam had breathed his last while on a lecture visit. Similarly, the DoNER Ministry has also undertaken the initiative of setting up "Brahmaputra Centre of Studies" at the Guwahati University.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Tyagi extended aninvitation to Dr Jitendra Singh to visit the Delhi University for a faculty interaction and lecture. Dr Jitendra Singh accepted the invitation saying, that a possible date could be worked after the conclusion of the current session of Parliament on 12th of this month. He recalled that earlier also, he has been regularly visiting the Delhi University as well as some other leading colleges affiliated to this University and on each occasion, it has been a mutually rewarding experience.

Vice Chancellor also discussed with Dr Jitendra Singh some of the pending issues which, Dr Jitendra Singh assured, he would follow up at the concerned quarters.
