Project Medal lifts U-16 Cricket trophy

JAMMU: Project Model School clinched the thriller in the title clash when they beat Reasi Best Stars by one wicket in the final of the Dr Vidushi Kapahi Memorial 50 over Under-16 Cricket League played at Country Cricket Academy grounds , Gharota here today.
Batting first, after winning the toss, Reasi Best Stars made 131 runs losing all their wickets in 23.4 overs. Kapil (25), Neeraj (22) and Jasbeer (17) were main contributors to the team's total. It was brilliant spell of five wickets from Arastu Sharma that restricted Reasi Stars from making it a big total. Ashim Nanda was other successful bowler with three wickets.
Chasing an easy target of near three-run per over, Project Model School started their innings on a bad note. They were four wickets down with score on board just eight runs. However, some superb innings coming from Rishab Sharma and Manav Singh, who made 39 and 22 runs respective, provided some hope to side.
It was Abhinav Khajuria and Arastu Sharma, who played the most important part of the innings making 22 runs for their last wicket stand thus clinched the thriller.
From Reasi Best Stars, Kapil Sharma emerged as most successful bowler with three wickets while Sahil and Sachin shared two each.
Arastu Sharma with a tournament tally of 18 wickets in five matches was adjudged as best bowler. He was also presented the man of the match trophy for his five wickets haul in today's final game.
Rishab Sharma with sound batting skills and highest tally of runs was declared the best bats man while Abhay Tandon, with 16 wickets and 70 runs was adjudged as best all rounder of the series.
The finals were witnessed by current Ranji Trophy player, Ram Dayal as guest of honour, who termed the tournament a success especially for the improved playing conditions extended to the junior cricketers. He appreciated the green cricket ground and the well laid turfs that are providing the experience of real turf cricket to the budding cricketers and which are those players like him craved while he was a junior cricketer.
Dr. Urmil Kapahi was chief guest in the title clash, who along with Ram Dayal gave away the title trophies and other individual prizes. Others present were Nadeem, Ashwini Kumar, Sundeep Singh and the parents of the cricketers.
Kanav Sharma and Sahil Sharma were officials in today's final. The tournament held under the supervision of former Ranji Trophy cricketer, Vivek Sharma.
Meanwhile, Principal Project Model Higher Secondary School thanked the players for maintaining great spirit of the game.
