Locals demand quick lifting of garbage in Udhampur city

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan started by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi received great show of appreciation and support from across the country. Similarly in Udhampur region many such schemes were adopted in order to clean the city and make life easy for the people but the status quo suggest that the whole system of lifting garbage has collapsed.

But unfortunately, the complaints regarding the heaps of foul-smelling garbage accumulated at most of the public places did not subside. The members of civil society and Morning Walkers Association claim that the garbage littered near parks and public places cause huge inconvenience to the people and presents a contrite state of the town to the visitors.

Locals alleged that huge garbage dumps can be seen littered outside the J&K Bank Domail, opposite CMO office Udhampur which creates a bad impression on the people.

Trivikram Baigra told Jammu Links News that the people of Udhampur town have to bear inconvenience owing to the foul smelling garbage. He further said that such situation can worsen the health of scores of people by causing respiratory disorders and related lethal diseases. He added that locals even engage private hands to collect the garbage near their homes but the same cannot be done for the whole city.

He said that the Municipal Committee Udhampur has also failed in cleaning up important public places. The political apathy has also deteriorated the situation. Annoyed by the lethargy of the concerned department, locals approached Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Neeraj Kumar and requested him to change the dumping sites and ensure the regular lifting of garbage.

Even the Bank Manager of J&K Bank Housing Colony alleged that they have contacted the office of DC Udhampur several times for lifting the garbage present outside the bank but nothing has been done so far.

Frequent lifting of garbage needs to be ensured by the concerned department to ensure public health.
