Free medical camp held for operators of commercial vehicles

RAJOURI: To educate the public about golden rules of traffic, Motor Vehicle Department Rajouri today organised a road safety awareness program here at Old Bus stand.

The event was organised under the overall supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, who was the chief guest on the occasion.

During the program, the people were made aware about the road safety measures like putting on seat belts, avoiding overtaking, not using mobile phones while driving, heeding to red signals and shunning unnecessary honking.

A free medical camp was also organised for drivers and Cleaners of commercial vehicles in which a team of the Health Department checked their blood pressure, blood sugar, eye sight etc.

Addressing the event, the DC said that the common traffic violations such as overspeeding, jumping traffic signals, drunken driving, unnecessary honking, violations of designated traffic zones, not wearing seat belts, riding without helmets, modification of two-wheelers and the use of mobile phones while driving, among others are main cause of mishaps.

He urged the drivers to be mindful of duties and responsibilities while driving and having self restraint in speeding limits is a way forward towards changing driving behaviours.

Underlining the need to follow golden traffic norms to avoid road accidents, he said that the traffic violation leads to road accidents and kills hundreds of people on a daily basis. He further said that the adherence to laws can avert most of the road accidents besides making commutation hassle-free.

The DC also motivated the drivers to be more responsible and asked them to follow all the precautions and road safety measures while driving the vehicle and also advised them to inform their near and dear ones to follow precautionary measures.

Highlighting the objective of the medical camp, he said that drivers and conductors are the major stakeholders in the transport sector and it is important that they remain healthy so that they can perform their roles in an efficient manner. He also assured that such camps would be organised on a regular basis in near future.

Among the others present during the event were Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Imran Rashid Kataria; Chief Medical Officer, Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar; Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Shami Kumar; Ward Councillor, Sanjay Sharma and others.
