Swachhta Abhiyan's, pledge taking ceremonies & series of events mark celebration of Gandhi Jayanti across Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Swachhta Abhiyan's, pledge taking ceremonies, starting of campaigns and series of events today marked the celebration of the 153rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, M K Gandhi across all the districts of Kashmir.

At Srinagar: Swachata Activities and Gram Sabhas were carried out in all 21 Panchayats of the district to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The programme was carried out in all four Blocks of the district viz. Harwan, Qamarwari, Khonmoh and Srinagar. Large number of people across all Panchayats of the District Participated in these programmes and took pledge to keep their surroundings neat and clean.

The programme was carried out under the supervision of Syed Farooq Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Srinagar.

On the occasion, the Door to Door collection of solid waste campaign was launched in rural areas of Srinagar district.

In addition gram sabhas with respect to village development plan were also conducted.

At Budgam: The District Administration Budgam today organized an impressive function at Sports Stadium, here to pay homage to Father of the Nation on his 153th birth anniversary.

The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, S F Hamid. The chairman DDC Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Khan as a Guest of Honour also attended the programme.

At the outset, artists and school children presented skits and various other colorful performances to highlight the message of peace and harmony of Mahatma Gandhi.

A special yoga session and daylong painting competition of student participants besides charkhas and other handloom products with live demonstrations of artisans were also set up at the venue.

On the occasion, Peace Pledge and Swachhta Pledge were also taken in which a gathering of hundreds of locals and students participated.

Various eminent personalities, students, sports persons and others were felicitated for their exemplary work in different fields.

Deputy Commissioner in his message said that it is with people's participation that we can see Budgam developing and touching new heights.

DC also said celebrating Gandhi Jayanti is to pass Gandhi ji's message of unity and harmony to the youth to take his mission of peace forward.

Along-side the event various stalls were installed wherein local artisans showcased their handicraft.

A live painting exhibition was also part of the festivities.

Among other officers, SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem Khan, ADDC Budgam Dr Akramullah Tak, ADC Budgam, Dr. Nasir Ahmad, CEO, CMO, ACD, ACP, DSWO and other district and sectorial officers also attended the celebration.

At Ganderbal: A series of events were today held in the district with the main event organized in the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat here, which was presided over by District Development Council (DDC) Vice-Chairperson, Bilal Ahmad and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir.

The event began with the lighting of lamp followed by paying floral tributes to the Father of Nation.

The event also witnessed the launch of the Universal Non Communicable Disease screening programme under the theme "Aurzo Durkoth" to cover the 100 percent of population in the district. This mission mode campaign is focussed on Universal Screening Under Comprehensive Primary Health Care through Ayushman Bharat and Wellness Centres.

District specific Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) campaign "Myoun Gaam-Myean Shaan" (My Village-My Glory) was also

launched under which best performing Panchayats would be felicitated.

On the occasion students of various schools presented colorful cultural programmes based on the importance of education and Gandhian Philosophy.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC extended his greetings to the people on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti and said the objective of Gandhian Philosophy is to transform the individual and society simultaneously, in accordance with the principles of truth, non-violence mutual respect and cooperation.

Various students also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the philosophy of Father of Nation which reminds humankind of the true values of peaceful co-existence in a plural world and of the need to work in unity for the equality and freedom of every individual.

Swachta drive was also conducted in and around the Mini Secretariat Complex Ganderbal which was headed by the Deputy Commissioner. Similar Swachta drives were also held throughout the district.

Later, a felicitation ceremony was also held in which various officers and officials including Tehsildars, Pathwaris, Safai karamchari and NYCs were felicitated by the Deputy Commissioner for their hard work and dedication during various flagship campaigns in the district.

Among others, ADDC Ganderbal, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani; CPO, ACD, ACR and other district officers were present on the occasion.

At Anantnag: Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with much fervour across the district. Various events celebrating the life and teaching of Gandhiji were held in educational institutions, municipalities and community development blocks.

The focus of these events was on ensuring cleanliness in our surroundings, adopting organic methods of farming and promoting self-sustainability of villages.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom presided over the celebrations at Block Vessu where he laid the foundation stone of the new block building which will come up at a cost of Rs 45 lacs. He inaugurated a segregated waste management compost pit at the Block HQ that will be used for segregated scientific disposal of waste.

In a first, the DC also distributed manure among local farmers which has been prepared by collecting, segregating and composting the waste generated during SANJY 2022. The Agriculture department had provided the technical guidance for this venture. To promote scientific disposal of waste in schools and inculcate the practice in children from a young age, a compost pit was also inaugurated at GHS Vessu by Dr Basharat.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Basharat said that Gandhi Jayanti is being celebrated as Swachta Diwas this year. He said that following the ideals of Gandhi ji, in addition to clean cities and towns, plans have been rolled out for having clean villages. He said that proper management and disposal of waste is critical for ensuring Swachta.

Additional District Development Commissioner Anantnag inaugurated a compost pit and segregation shed at GMS Vessu. He exhorted the school authorities as well as neighbouring residents to make best use of this facility.

Prior to this, a run for fun was organized by the Department of Rural Development at Anantnag. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag led the run and was accompanied by ACD Anantnag Riyaz Ahmad Shah. The run from Khanabal to GHS Ranibagh saw participation by a large gathering of students, officials from MC Anantnag and members of civil society.

MC Dooru Verinag kick-started an innovative waste reuse program by name of Kabad se Jugaad where several disposable items were reused to create beautiful articles. These articles were then demonstrated in public spaces.

Maha Gram Sabhas were also held in all the blocks of Anantnag today to kickstart the process of framing Gram Panchayat Development Plans for next fiscal. The gram sabhas were held in all 335 panchayat halqas of Anantnag.

At Pulwama: Around 10000 people, particularly youth and students participated in a unique event ‘RUN FOR FUN' under Swatchta Hi Sewa on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti to commemorate the birthday of father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

The event was flagged off by the Additional District Development Commissioner, Dr Sheikh Ab Aziz in presence of Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Ovais Mushtaq, Assistant Commissioner Development, Dr Peezada Farhat, Chief Education Officer, Officers from police and people from civil society.

The event witnessed a series of colorful events in which school children, youth volunteered to clean their respective Panchayats. In a unique event carried out by youth who demonstrated the message of non-violence through a skit invoking Mahatma Gandhi.

While addressing a gathering of youth in Pulwama, Additional District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Sheikh Ab Aziz paid tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and urged upon the participants to adhere to the principles and values professed by Gandhi Ji.

He said the message of Non-violence spread by Gandhi Ji is universal and is relevant at all times. He added the emphasis laid by the father of nation on cleanliness is playing a beacon's role in the times of consumerism and environmental degradation.

Later, ADDC laid the foundation stone of 16 segregation sheds under the Solid Waste Management plan.

Special Volunteer teams led by local youth in the villages of Ratnipora and Muran carried out door to door collection of garbage with segregation principles and later shifted to treatment plants accordingly. The move was praised by the locals as the activity stimulated many others leading to a chain effect.

Similar functions were held in all 11 blocks of the district where Block Development Officers presided over the functions and carried out similar activities.

At Kulgam: Gandhi Jayanti celebrations were held across the district with a mega event organised by District Administration Kulgam at Mini Secretariat, here. Besides, a series of events and activities were held across Tehsils, Blocks, Panchayats, Municipalities and other institutions.

The main event organized at Mini Secretariatwas presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dr.Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat.

Among others, ADDC,ADC, ACD,ACP,CEO,CAO, and other district officers and employees were present on the occasion.

Sanitation drives, door to door collection of solid waste in every panchayat, anti polythene drives and cleanliness drives for water bodies were also kick started by the DC.

On the occasion, ACD briefed about the SWM plan to the officers and officials and other participants.

Students of various schools presented colourful cultural programmes based on the importance of education and Gandhian Philosophy and awareness rallies were also organised in various schools.

The DC also participated in the cleanliness drive of a water body at panchayat Amnoo Kulgam.

Students also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the philosophy of the Father of the Nation.

At Bandipora: Education Department Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora today organised a grand function at Conference Hall Mini Secretariat, Bandipora.

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr. Owais Ahmed was chief guest on the occasion.

The function was attended by DPO Bandipora Mohd Ashraf Hakak, ACD Bandipora, CEO Bandipora, ZEOs, Principals, and a large gathering of teachers and students.

Highlighting the achievements of Gandhi Ji's life , Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr. Owais Ahmed said that Gandhi ji always focused on actions based on truth.

Dr. Owais recalled the sacrifices of the Father of Nation and highlighted the message of Non Violence, respect and tolerance.

He said, the life and legacy of Gandhiji continue to influence and inspire generations.

Various other speakers threw light on the life and devotion of Gandhi Ji for dignity and equality for all people.

Early in the run-up during last month to Gandhi Jayanti, educational institutions across the district organised a variety of events including Debates, painting competitions, Shanti Yatra and other activities.

The students of various institutions were also felicitated for their best performances in various activities like Shanti Yatra, Painting, Essay Competitions etc.
