Jodhamal Youth Conclave inaugurated

JAMMU: The 6th Edition of Jodhamal Youth Conclave (JYC) kick-started in the School Campus. The Conclave is a 3-day congregation of the best schools from the country that gather to simulate the United Nations and discuss various agenda in multiple Committees.

JYC is an effort that has been initiated by Jodhamal Public School to make the students aware of the fast-changing geo-politics, social and environmental scenarios. More than 300 delegates from ten schools are attending this 3-day Conclave.

The participating schools are: Mayo College Girls' School, Ajmer, Welham Boys' School, Dehradun, Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, K C Public School, Jammu, G D Goenka Public School, Jammu, K C International School, Jammu, Jammu Sanskriti School, Jammu, IDPS, Jammu, Delhi Public School, Udhampur and the host School, Jodhamal Public School, Jammu.

JYC is a unique platform of the students, for the students, and by the students which, apart from debates, discussions and diplomacy, provides an opportunity to the students from diverse cultural backgrounds to create life-long camaraderie and friendships.

The motto of this year's JYC is: ‘Bridging the World: One Conference at a time'. Participants have been allotted different Committees with their specific Agenda that covers national and international issues.

There are six Committees in JYC'23 and their Agenda are:

1. Lok Sabha: "Discussing the status of the centre-state relationship in India with special reference to the Punchhi Commission's Report"

2. United Nations Security Council: Continuous Crisis Committee: "Articulation of NATO's role with special emphasis on the current Russian-Ukrainian Conflict"

3. United Nations Human Rights Committee: "Deliberating upon trans-national organized crime with special emphasis on the exploitation of human rights by the South East Asian Crime Syndicate."

4. United Nations Women: "Deliberating the issue of gender-based bias in corporate environments with special emphasis on exploitation of women and the need for establishment of quotas to safeguard their rights.",

5. All India Political Parties Meet: "Deliberation on Freedom of Press in India with emphasis on media trials", and 6. International Press Corps: "Deliberation on implementation of Digital Media Ethics Code and Online Safety Bill, which contradicts free speech"

The Inaugural Ceremony of JYC'23 started with full enthusiasm in the Multipurpose Hall of Jodhamal Public School.

The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu and Director, Internal Quality Assurance, University of Jammu. The Ceremony began with the lighting of a sacred lamp.

The Chief Guest handed over the gavels to the Chairpersons of various Committees. Principal, Girish Kumar delivered a Welcome Address, and Arya Mahajan, the Secretary General of JYC'23 declared the Conference Open.

The Directorate of JYC'23 comprises: Aarya Mahajan, Secretary General, Aditya Kumar, Deputy Secretary General, Akaisha Handa and Varalika Sharma, USG Outreach, Anish Arora USG Logistics, Vanshika Gupta, USG Delegate Affairs, Ira Chandran, USG Communication, Hussain Areeb, USG Media, and Saksham Bhagat, USG Photography.

On this occasion, MUNBELIEVABLE, the colourful JYC-Newsletter was also released at the Inaugural Ceremony. Since it is a student-driven activity, all the students worked diligently to make it a successful event under the mentorship of the Conference Director, Mrs Deepmala and teachers Mubeen Butt, Anjali Mahajan, Pooja Sharma and Raghunandan.

The Inaugural Ceremony became more special as the Montage of JYC'23 was released by the Media Head. A throwback to JYCs since its inception was presented in a video film.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion were: Nandan Kuthiala, Trustee, Arati Kuthiala, Director, Girish Kumar, Principal and Shefali Sanwal, Vice Principal.

The 3-day Conclave will witness rounds of vigorous debates, discussions and diplomacy across all Committees and will conclude with a very elaborate Prize Giving Ceremony.

The Ceremony culminated with the address of the Deputy Secretary General, which was followed by the group photograph and Ice-breaking sessions in the Committee venues.
