UDHAMPUR: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Krittika Jyotsna today conducted an extensive visit of Majalta and inaugurated a Solid Waste Segregation unit at Panchayat Bharnara of the Block.
DDC Councillor, Amit Sharma and BDC Chairman, Dina Nath were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC sought cooperation of the general public in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in their surroundings to lead a healthy and hygienic life. She said that it is mandatory for people to segregate their waste into dry and wet waste at the source itself to facilitate its proper disposal.
The DC appealed to the PRIs to sensitise the general public about the harmful effects of polythene bags and encourage them to use jute bags or paper bags as an alternative to polythene bags to end this menace in the district.
The DC said that Majalta has become the first block to have such a unit for solid waste segregation and appealed to the people to follow the guidelines for the same. The locals expressed gratitude to the district administration for meeting the long pending demand of the Solid Waste segregation unit in Majalta Block.
