GDC Surankote hosts seminar to mark World Tourism Day

POONCH: To mark the celebration of World Tourism Day, the Department of Geography, Government Degree College Surankote, in collaboration with "Poonch Development Authority (Tourism) & YUVA Tourism Club" on Tuesday organised a seminar on this year's global theme of UNWTO "RETHINKING TOURISM - 2022".

Dr Mohammad Tanwir, Chief Executive Officer Poonch Development Authority, was the chief Guest and expert.

The main objective of the event was to create awareness among the students about the social, cultural, political and economic contribution of tourism towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr Khalil Ahmed, Head Department of Urdu presented the welcome address, while Dr Sarfraz Mir conducted the proceedings of the event.

In his keynote address, Dr. Mohammad Ashfaq, Head Department of Geography and Coordinator YUVA Tourism Club summed up and presented the view on how we can move forward by "Rethinking Tourism" in a more sustainable way.

The CEO Poonch DA delivered a detailed talk on the topic and made the students aware about the importance of World Tourism day in the present context. He also announced to organize a short-term training program for the students of GDC Surankote as per the demand of the market.

Meanwhile, the Students from different semesters participated in the seminar and expressed their views on the theme. They were awarded with appreciation certificates in the presence of the Chief Guest and Principal and staff of the College.

Dr. Syed Wajahat Hussain, HoD English, Surankote delivered the presidential address and highlighted the importance of "World Tourism Day" and advised the students to become the ambassadors of Tourism for their respective areas and also become the front runner for "Rethinking Tourism" in rural and urban areas.

Dr Shahid Iqbal, on behalf of organizing Committee, presented vote of thanks to College administration, CEO, Poonch Development Authority (Tourism) & YUVA Tourism Club of GDC Surankote for organising such a knowledgeable and well-planned seminar in the interest of the students.

He also extended thanks to the participants and Media persons for making the event a grand success.
