IIC, JU organizes Webinar on ‘Only One Planet'

JAMMU: Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), University of Jammu celebrated World Earth Day by organizing a webinar entitled ‘Only One Planet' under the visionary guidance of Prof. Umesh Rai, esteemed Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu wherein more than 100 participants participated from all over the nation on the occasion of 75th ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahahotsav'.

Sushil Kumar Sharma (Founder& CEO, Sustaineco, Gujarat), a successful business leader, motivational speaker and an author having a professional experience of more than 37 years in his kitty was the resource person.

While speaking, Sharma stated that the increase in pollution and damage caused by humans are affecting our planet so rapidly that it is threatening for our survival. By highlighting the adverse effects of high consumption of fuel energy, he directed the students about the repercussions that would lead to climate change and global warming and indeed demanded equal contribution of humans to thrive for preserving what is still left to us.

He articulated the relevance of the said topic by citing the "Paris Agreement" that was signed by most of the world leaders and subsequent indulgence of UN in 2016 for Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs.

With an emphasis upon the limited resources available on the planet, he necessitated the judicious utilization of resources. He focused on three R's i.e. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to conserve natural resources and landfill space.

He concluded by suggesting measures for saving the planet and therefore, how one should take conscious decisions to make the planet a better and sustainable place to live in.

Prof. Susheel Kumar Sharma, President, IIC University of Jammu acknowledged the resource person for such a vibrant presentation on a topic that holds relevance in the present scenario and emphasized on the importance of such webinars for the overall growth of the students.

He further appreciated the efforts of the IIC members and said that such kind of awareness programmes should be organized at regular intervals to give valuable knowledge to the students besides upgrading their skills. He also sensitized the students for finding out new ways to protect and support Mother Earth for sustainable and healthier life.

Earlier, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Start-Up Activity Coordinator, IIC, University of Jammu introduced the resource person and thanked him for having enlightened the students with his vast and valuable knowledge.

The webinar was attended by other IIC members namely Dr. Savita, Dr. Rockey Gupta, Dr. Meghna Dhar, Er. Rakshit Khajuria, and Er. Deepak Anand.
