"Battle is to raise voice against our land being captured": Mehbooba Mufti

ANANTNAG: People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief and Lok Sabha Candidate from Anantnag-Rajouri seat Mehbooba Mufti held a mega roadshow in Bijbeara in Anantnag on Monday and said that this election is not a battle between PDP and NC, but a bid to raise the voice against jobs being captured.

"This battle is not of PDP and NC, but of the situation of Jammu and Kashmir. This is to raise the voice against capture of our land, electricity, and jobs," Mufti said during the roadshow.

Sharing pictures of the roadshow on her X handle, Mehbooba Mufti wrote, "Iraade jinke pukhta hon nazar jinki Khuda par ho. Woh talatum khaiz mojon se ghabraya nahi karte."

On April 19, Mehbooba Mufti released the party's manifesto "Apna Vote, Apno Kay Liye" for the Lok Sabha elections and vowed to empower women and youth.

"The biggest responsibility as of now is to go to Parliament and to give a voice to the pain of the people of the state. Land-related laws that were under the state list were changed, which led to our resources, be it electricity, water, or lithium, being gifted to outsiders. Contracts for the developmental work are being given to outsiders," Mufti said.

The party vowed to improve road connectivity and said that every year, as winter approaches, large parts of J&K find themselves isolated due to severed connectivity.

Polling in Udhampur was held on April 19 (Phase 1), while Jammu, Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar, and Baramulla will poll on April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20.

In 2019, polling for the Lok Sabha was held for six seats in Jammu and Kashmir. However, following the abrogation of Article 370, which resulted in the split of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state into two Union Territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, there is no longer a separate Lok Sabha constituency for Ladakh.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP won three seats while the National Conference won the remaining three.

The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
