World Disability Day observed in District Poonch

POONCH: To mark the observance of International Day of persons with Disability, a grand event was organized here at Krishan Chander Memorial Degree College Poonch.

DDC Chairperson, Tazeem Akhter; Deputy Commissioner, Inderjeet; Additional District Development Commissioner, Dr. Mohammad Tanveer; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Commandant 93 Inf. Brigade, CMO, PO ICDS, DSWO Poonch and other officers were also present on the occasion.

The main attraction of the program was beautiful songs and dance performances by the students which livened up the audience and brought them to their feet. Many specially abled persons also present their views on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner said that the Government is very much concerned for the empowerment of the PwDs and a number of initiatives including financial assistance in the shape of pension, free education, free medical treatment, free travel, vocational programmes etc. are being taken to enable them to live a respectful life in the society.

The Deputy Commissioner also sought the active cooperation of the stakeholders for educating the specially-abled persons about various schemes and programmes launched for their wellbeing and motivate them to avail the benefits of the same. He has also assured of fulfilling all genuine demands raised during the event by the speakers. He also stresses on 100% inclusion of such persons in Social Security schemes.

DDC Chairperson Poonch and Deputy Commissioner Poonch also presented Wheel Chairs and Walking Sticks to the Specially-abled beneficiaries identified by the Social Welfare Department.

The event culminated with the distribution of Certificates of Appreciation to the participants and media persons.
