VC JU Flags off 1st Batch for Basic Life Support Programme: Expresses gratitude to Director, Health Services

JAMMU: To undergo two-day training on Basic Life Support, Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu today flagged off the first batch comprising of Programme Officers of NSS, NSS volunteers and the staff of University Health Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rai said that under the umbrella of Amrit Kaal (India @ 100), University envisaged to train faculty, Officers, non-teaching staff, scholars and students in a phased manner for dealing the emergency situations in saving precious lives due to sudden collapse like Brain Stroke/ Epilepsy/BP shoot choking/snake & insect bite etc.

These skills can make a very big difference by doubling a person's chance of survival, if performed at the right time, said Prof Rai.

It is extremely important that every individual is equipped with skills in basic life support that will help in saving lives and the Vice-Chancellor emphasises the need for making the Basic Life support system part learning as part of the teaching curriculum.

Prof Rai also expressed his gratitude to Dr Saleem Rehman, Director, Directorate of Heath Services, Jammu and Skill &Simulation Centre Nagrota, Jammu for collaborating with the University of Jammu.

Earlier, Dr Imran Farooq, Nodal Officer for Amrit Kaal said that it is one of the noble initiatives of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu.

He further said that the training program will be organised in three different phases and each phase having participation of 25 persons and in total 75 persons from the University of Jammu will be trained.

He also said that after completion of this training program these trained participants will impart training to other people in the University under the supervision of the staff of the Regional Institute of Health and Family Welfare on the main campus of the University of Jammu.

Dr. Deepak Kapoor, Deputy Director Health welcomed the participants at Nagrota and interacted with them.

The training program is being organised under the supervision of Dr. Manoj Bhagat, Principal, Regional Institute of Health and Family Welfare and Jammu Skill & Stimulation Centre, Nagrota and Dr. Anu Manhas, Medical Consultant and Master trainer shall impart the training to the participants.

The whole training program is being organised under the overall supervision of Dr. Salim ul Rehman, Director Health Services,Jammu.

Among others, Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, Prof Rajiv Rattan, Director, College Development Council, Prof Parkash C Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, Sanjeev Mahajan, Controller of Examinations, Dr Neeraj Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, Dr Dauood Iqbal Baba, Director, Sports & Physical Education, Dr Raj Kumar, Deputy Registrar,Dr Akhilesh Sharma, Liaison Officer and students were also present on the occasion.
