Agriculture Department organizes awareness, distribution camp at Pattan

BARAMULLA: In a significant move to acquaint and familiarize the farmers with the latest and scientific farming methods, Agriculture department, Baramulla today organized a day-long awareness cum distribution camp at Pattan here today.

The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo inaugurated the camp and presided over the function as the chief guest.

During the camp various modern and scientific farming techniques were highlighted by the experts who deliberated on adopting such measures for enhancing agriculture production.

Meanwhile, 11 Motorized Paddy Thresher having a cost of Rs 40,000 each were distributed among the farmers free of cost. Initially, all the panchayat Halqas belonging to Pattan Block shall be covered under which one community based thresher for each Panchayat Halqa will be made available for the benefit of the farmers. The Threshers were distributed under District Capex Budget Plan.

Chief Agriculture Officer Mohammad Yousuf Shah, briefed the gathering about various government schemes and programmes for the welfare of farming community. He urged upon them to avail the benefits of these schemes and programmes.

Deputy Commissioner, in his speech stressed for organizing such camps in different areas of the district so that farmers can be educated regarding different modern farming techniques. phases. Terming the agriculture sector a vital sector of the economy on which a large section of the society is directly or indirectly depend for livelihood he said such paddy threshers shall be distributed in all the Panchayat halqas of the district.

Reiterating the administration's commitment for ensuring overall welfare of the farmers, DC urged upon the youth to come forward and adopt the farming as a means for sustainable livelihood. He also said that several programmes have been launched by the government which aim at socio-economic welfare of the farmers.

Earlier, the DC flagged off a group of 30 farmers for an exposure tour under ATMA. During the tour the farmers shall interact with agricultural scientists and other experts of various Agricultural Universities and Institutions of Punjab to get acquainted with the latest farming techniques and know-how.
